Catering to Your Dietary Needs with Kenya Airways

At Kenya Airways, we understand that our passengers have unique dietary, religious, and medical preferences. We are delighted to accommodate your special meal requests to ensure a satisfying journey. Here's how you can request your special meal:

Religious Meals

Hindu meals (HNML): This meal is for guests from the Hindu community and may contain one or more of the following ingredients lamb, chicken, fish, eggs, milk, and dairy products. This meal will not contain beef, by products, veal or smoked fish products.

Vegetarian Jain meals (VJML) : This meal is prepared using strict Jain cuisine and does not contain animal products, by-products or any root vegetables such as onions, mushrooms, ginger, garlic, potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, etc. It may contain one or more of the following ingredients fruit and stem vegetables that are grown above the ground.  

Kosher meals (KSML) : This meal is for guests who follow the Jewish customs and are prepared with strict compliance of the Jewish dietary requirements. These meals should be ordered 48 hours before your schedule departure and may not be available on all Kenya Airways flights.

Vegetarian meals

 Asian Vegetarian meals (AVML): This meal is prepared for Vegetarian guests and contains all vegetables, fruit, diary products etc. It does not contain any type of meat, fish or eggs.

 Vegetarian meals (AVML): This meal is prepared for Vegetarian guests and does not contain any animal products or by products (eggs or dairy products). It may contain different types of vegetables and fruits and does not contain any type of meat, animal (or by-products), fish or eggs.

Medical and Dietary meals

Gluten-Free Meal (GFML): This is for guests who are allergic or intolerant to gluten (a protein of wheat, barley, oats, or rye). It does contain ingredients such as dairy products, fresh vegetables, salads, fruit, fish, lean meats, and rice. It does not contain bread, sauces, pasta, or items that have refined sugar such as custard, cakes, chocolates, rolls or crackers. 

Bland Meal (BLML): This meal is available for guests with disorders of the stomach or the digestive tract. It contains mostly soft food that is easily digestible and without spice such as mashed potatoes, fresh spinach, soft-boiled eggs, boiled meats, toast, milk, and dairy products. It does not contain baked or fried food, garlic, onions, or spices.

Diabetic Meal (DBML): This meal is for all diabetic guests and is a low-sugar meal that may contains low fat milk, butter, plain yoghurt, lean meats, boiled/pureed potatoes, vegetables or fresh fruit. It does not contain any kind of sugar (certain sugar substitutes may be used).

Low Fat Meal (LFML): Guests who require a meal with a minimal of fatty foods can select this meal. These meals contain one or more of the following ingredients: margarine, cottage cheese, egg whites, boiled rice, potatoes, lean meats, fish, wholegrain bread, cereals, and fresh fruit. This meal will not contain milk, cream, fat, cheese, egg yolks, or fatty meats. 

Non-Lactose Meal (NLML): Guest who are allergic or intolerant to milk and milk products or suffering from low lactose levels should order this meal. This meal will contain one or more of these ingredients: salads, vegetables and other foods high in fibre, pasta, rice, fish, or meat. The meal will not contain milk and milk products, sauces, soft rolls, pastries or croissants.

Low Sodium/ Low Salt Meal (LSML): Guests with high blood pressure should order a low sodium meal. This meal will contain one or more of these ingredients: salt-free margarine, foods low in sodium content, fresh fruit and vegetables. The meal will not contain salty cheese, sauces, dressings, smoked, salted or preserved meat and fish.

Baby and child meals

Baby Meal: We offer standard baby meal for infants up to two years old. However, we recommend that you bring food your baby is familiar with. Our crew are at hand to assist with heating on baby meals and provided you with bottled water.

Child Meal: For children between the ages of two and 12, you can order a child meal. Please note this meal is only on offer for flights longer than four hours.

Other special meals

Fruit platter: For our guests looking to eat a light healthy meal, they can order a fresh fruit platter that is prepared with the fruits in season.

Nut allergies: Kenya Airways cannot guarantee a nut free environment. Nuts may be served as snacks, could be part of the ingredients used while preparing our inflight our meals or other guests may bring food on the aircraft that contain nuts. Nut residue oils can also be passed onto the seats, air conditioning or from other surfaces on the aircraft.  
As Kenya Airways is not able to accept responsibility for guests with nut allergic reactions, we suggest you discuss your travel plans with your doctor prior to travelling with us. You can also bring your own meal on the flight.
